Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

IGNITION COILS TESTING AND INSPECTION

1. Disconnect high-tension cords from ignition coils.
2. Disconnect ignition coil connectors.

3. Inspect primary coil resistance.
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals.

Primary coil resistance:
Cold: 0.70-0.94 ohm
Hot: 0.85-1.10ohm

If the resistance is not as specified, replace the ignition coil.

4. Inspect secondary coil resistance.
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the positive (+) and high-tension terminal.

Secondary coil resistance:
Cold: 10.8 - 14.9 K ohms
Hot: 13.1 - 17.5 K ohms

It the resistance is not as specified, replace the ignition coil.
5. Reconnect ignition coil connectors.
6. Reconnect high-tension cords to ignition coils.
