Rear

Removal
1. Refer to Fig. 70 when replacing shock absorbers.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove rear seat cushion, rear seat back, right and left rear scuff plates, right and left roof side inner garnishes and package tray trim.
4. Remove rear driveshaft.
5. Disconnect both stabilizer links at stabilizer bar.

6. Remove brake caliper from rear axle carrier, then hang up using wire, Fig. 71.
7. Remove nut on lower side of shock absorber but, do not remove bolt.

8. Support rear axle carrier with jack, Fig. 72.
9. Remove three nuts and shock absorber cap.
10. Loosen suspension support nut, but do not remove it.
11. Remove three shock absorber mounting nuts, then lower rear axle carrier and remove lower bolt.
12. Remove shock absorber from vehicle.

13. Using spring compressor tool No. SST 09727-30020 or equivalent, compress coil spring, Fig. 73.
14. Remove suspension support nut, suspension support, coil spring and insulator.
15. Remove insulator and spring bumper from suspension support.
16. Remove lower insulator from shock absorber.

Installation
1. Install lower insulator onto shock absorber and spring bumper to suspension support.

2. Install insulator to suspension support making sure to line up suspension support bolt with cut off part of insulator, Fig. 67.
3. Using spring compressor tool No. SST 09727-30020, compress coil spring.

4. Install coil spring to shock absorber making sure to fit lower end of coil spring into gap of spring seat on shock absorber, Fig. 68.

5. Install suspension support and temporarily tighten new nut, then rotate suspension support until the rod and one suspension support bolt line up with lower bushing, Fig. 69.
6. Install shock absorber in vehicle with three mounting nuts and torque to specifications.
7. Torque suspension support to specification, then install shock absorber cap and three nuts.
8. Connect shock absorber to rear axle carrier and temporarily install nut and bolt.
9. Install brake caliper and torque bolts to specification.
10. Connect both stabilizer bar links and torque to specifications.
11. Install rear driveshaft.
12. Install wheel and tire assembly, then lower vehicle and bounce up and down several times to stabilize suspension.
13. Raise and support vehicle with vehicle weight still on suspension, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
14. Torque lower shock bolt to specifications.
15. Install wheel and tire assembly and torque to specifications, then lower vehicle.
16. Install package tray trim, right and left roof side inner garnishes, right and left rear scuff plates, rear seat back and rear seat cushion.
17. Check rear wheel alignment.
