Transmission/Transaxle Replacement

TRANSMISSION REMOVAL




Component View

1. REMOVE LEVEL GAUGE

2. REMOVE FILLER PIPE

3. DISCONNECT OXYGEN SENSOR



(a) Remove the 2 bolts and sensor cover from the exhaust pipe.
(b) Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor.

Torque: 44 Nm (33 ft lbs)

INSTALLATION NOTICE: After Installing the oxygen sensor, check that the wire is not twisted.

4. REMOVE LEFT AND RIGHT TAIL PIPES
(a) Remove the nuts and disconnect the left and right tail pipes from the center exhaust pipe.

Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lbs)

(b) Remove the left and right tail pipe from the brackets.

5. REMOVE FRONT AND CENTER EXHAUST PIPE



(a) Remove the 2 nuts and bolts, disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the No.2 exhaust pipe

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lbs)




(b) Remove the 2 bolts and exhaust pipe support bracket.

Torque: 37 Nm (27 ft lbs)

(c) Remove the center exhaust pipe brackets and front and center exhaust pipe.

Torque: 13 Nm (9 ft lbs)

6. REMOVE HEAT INSULATOR

Torque: 5.4 Nm (48 in lbs)

7. REMOVE REAR CENTER FLOOR CR0SS MEMBER BRACE




Torque: 13 Nm (9 ft lbs)

8. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL ROD FROM SHIFT LEVER




Torque: 13 Nm (9 ft lbs)

9. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT

10. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR AND CABLE FROM STARTER




11. REMOVE 2 OIL COOLER PIPES



(a) Disconnect the 2 oil cooler union nuts.

Torque: 44 Nm (32 ft lbs)




(b) Disconnect the oil cooler hoses from oil cooler pipes.
(c) Remove the front oil cooler pipe bracket.

Torque: 5.5 Nm (49 in lbs)



(d) Remove the center and rear oil cooler pipe brackets.

Torque: A Bolt - 10 Nm (7 ft lbs)
B Bolt - 5.5 Nm (49 in lbs)

(e) Remove the 2 oil cooler pipes.

12. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH MOUNTING BOLT



(a) Remove the hole plug.
(b) Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts with holding the crankshaft pulley nut by a wrench.

Torque: Torque: 41 Nm (30 ft lbs)

13. SET TRANSMISSION JACK




INSTALLATION HINT:
Make sure the engine and transmission are aligned precisely.
Adjust the angle of the engine and transmission so that the engine installation surface and transmission surface parallel.

14. SUPPORT ENGINE




NOTICE: Use a wooden block so not to damage the engine oil pan.

15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REAR SUPPORT MEMBER




Torque: 25 Nm (10 ft lbs)

16. LOOSEN NO.2 EXHAUST PIPE SET NUT
Loosen the 4 No.2 exhaust pipe set nuts until the No.2 exhaust pipe can move freely.

Torque: 62 Nm (46 ft lbs)

17. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR
Lower the transmission and disconnect the connectors of No.1 vehicle speed sensor, No.2 vehicle speed sensor, 0/D direct clutch speed sensor, C2 drum speed sensor, park/neutral position switch and 2 solenoid wires.

16. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS FROM EACH WIRE HARNESS CLAMP

19. REMOVE STARTER AND TRANSMISSION SET BOLTS




Torque: 14 mm bolt: 37 Nm (27 ft lbs) 17 mm bolt: 72 Nm (53 ft lbs)

20. REMOVE TRANSMISSION FROM ENGINE
