Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models with coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Using Torx 30 tool No. 09042-00010, or equivalent, loosen wheel pad screws, Fig. 18.
3. Pull air bag from steering wheel and disconnect connector. Store air bag facing upward.
4. Place matchmarks on steering wheel and shaft, then disconnect connector and remove steering wheel nut.
5. Using steering wheel puller tool No. 09950-00010, or equivalent, remove steering wheel.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel nut to 26 ft. lb.
b. Torque wheel pad screws to 78 in. lb.
7. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
