Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE FROM BATTERY:
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. REMOVE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (VSV):
- Disconnect the VSV connector.
- Disconnect the following hoses:
- Vacuum hose (from vacuum pipe) from VSV.
- Vacuum hose (from charcoal canister) from VSV.
- Remove the VSV with the bolt.
3. INSPECT VSV:
- Inspect VSV for open circuit.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between the terminals.
Resistance (Cold): 30 - 34 Ohms
- If there is no continuity, replace the VSV.
- Inspect VSV for ground.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between each terminal and the body.
- If there is continuity, replace the VSV.
- Inspect VSV operation.
- Check that the air flows with difficulty from port E to F.
- Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
- Check that the air flows without resistance from port E to F.
- If operation is not as specified, replace the VSV.
4. REINSTALL VSV:
- Install the VSV with the bolt.
- Connect the following hoses:
- Vacuum hose (from vacuum pipe) to VSV.
- Vacuum hose (from charcoal canister) to VSV.
- Connect the VSV connector.
