Axle Shaft: Service and Repair


Fig. 97 Removing Rear Driveshaft:






1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove exhaust pipe.
3. Remove cotter pin, locknut cap and center locknut.
4. Place matchmarks on driveshaft and side gear shaft, Fig. 97. Do not use a punch to mark matchmarks.
5. Using special service tool No. 09043-38100 or equivalent, remove six hexagon bolts and two washers while depressing brake pedal, Fig. 97.
6. Hold inboard joint side of driveshaft so outboard joint side does not bend too much.
7. Using a plastic faced hammer, lightly tap end of driveshaft to disengage axle hub, then remove driveshaft.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque bolts to specification.
