Variable Induction Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection





COMPONENTS FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION:





1. DISCONNECT NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE FROM BATTERY.

CAUTION: Work must be started after eo seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.





2. WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:
REMOVE OIL DIPSTICK AND GUIDE FOR A/T.
- Remove the bolt.
- Pull out the dipstick guide together with the dipstick.
- Remove the 0-ring from the dipstick guide.





3. REMOVE VACUUM TANK AND VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (VSV) ASSEMBLY.
- Remove the 2 nuts, and disconnect the vacuum tank from the intake manifold.





- Disconnect the following connector and hoses, and remove the vacuum tank and VSV assembly:
- VSV connector
- Vacuum hose (from air intake chamber) from port B of vacuum tank
- Vacuum hose (from actuator) from VSV





4. REMOVE VSV FROM VACUUM TANK.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from port F of the VSV.
- Remove the screw and VSV.
5. INSPECT VSV.





- Inspect VSV for open circuit.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between the terminals.

Resistance: 38.5 - 44.5 Ohm at 20°C (68°F)

- If there is no continuity, replace the VSV.





- Inspect VSV for ground.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between each terminal and the body.
- If there is continuity, replace the VSV.





- Inspect VSV operation.
- Check that air flows from port E to the filter.





- Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
- Check that air flows from port E to port F.
- If operation is not as specified. replace the VSV.





6. REINSTALL VSV TO VACUUM TANK.
- Install the VSV with the screw.
- Connect the vacuum hose to port F of the VSV.





7. REINSTALL VACUUM TANK AND VSV ASSEMBLY.
- Connect the following connector and hoses:
- VSV connector
- Vacuum hose (from air intake chamber) to port B of vacuum tank
- Vacuum hose (from actuator) to VSV.





- Install the vacuum and VSV assembly with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 21 N.m (210 kgf cm, 15 ft.lbf)





8. WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:
REINSTALL OIL DIPSTICK AND GUIDE FOR A/T.
- Install a new 0-ring on the dipstick guide.
- Apply soapy water on the 0-ring.
- Connect the dipstick guide end to the oil pan.
- Install the dipstick and guide with the bolt.
9. RECONNECT NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE TO BATTERY.
