Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection





1. REMOVE Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV).
Disconnect the following connector and hoses:
- Connector.
- Hose (from charcoal canister) from port E of VSV.
- Hose (from port P of throttle body) from port F of VSV.
Remove the bolt and VSV.
2. INSPECT VSV.





Inspect VSV for open circuit.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between the terminals.

Resistance: 27 - 33 Ohms at 20°C (68°F)

- If there is no continuity, replace the VSV.





Inspect VSV for ground.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between each terminal and the body.
- If there is continuity, replace the VSV.





Inspect VSV operation.
- Check that air does not flow from port E to F.





- Apply battery voltage across the terminals.
- Check that air flows from port E to F.
If operation is not as specified, replace the VSV.





3. REINSTALL VSV.
Install the VSV with the bolt.
Connect the following connector and hoses:
- Connector.
- Hose (from charcoal canister) to port E of VSV.
- Hose (from port P of throttle body) to port F of VSV.
