COMPONENTS

REMOVAL:

1. DISCONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS FROM DISTRIBUTOR CAP.
2. DISCONNECT DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTOR.

3. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Look through oil filler hole and turn the crankshaft clockwise until the cam nose can be seen.

- Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise approximately 120°.
- Turn the crankshaft again approximately 10° to 40° clockwise so that the timing belt cover TDC mark and the crankshaft pulley TDC mark are aligned.

4. REMOVE DISTRIBUTOR.
- Remove the hold-down nut.

- Pull out the distributor from the cylinder head.
- Remove the 0-ring from the distributor housing.

INSTALLATION:
1. CHECK NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION.
- Refer to step 3 in Removal.

2. INSTALL DISTRIBUTOR.
- Install a new 0-ring to the distributor housing.

HINT: Always use a new 0-ring when installing the distributor.

- Align the groove of the distributor housing with the protrusion on the drive gear.

- Insert the distributor, aligning the center of the flange with that of the stud bolt on the cylinder head.
- Lightly tighten the hold-down nut.
3. CONNECT DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTOR.
4. CONNECT HIGH-TENSION CORDS TO DISTRIBUTOR CAP.
5. WARM UP ENGINE.
- Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.

6. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE.
- Connect the tester probe of a tachometer to terminal IG(-) of the DLC1.
NOTICE:
- Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
- As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.

7. CHECK IDLE SPEED.
- Race the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for approx. 90 seconds.

- Check the idle speed.

Idle speed: 700 ± 50 rpm

8. ADJUST IGNITION TIMING.
- Using SST 09843-18020, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC1.

- Using a timing light, check the ignition timing.

Ignition timing:10 ± 2° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)

- Loosen the nut, and adjust by turning the distributor.

Ignition timing: 10° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)

- Tighten the nut, and recheck the ignition timing.

Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)

- Remove the SST 09843-18020 from the DLC1.

9. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING.

Ignition timing: 7 - 19° BTDC @ idle
(Transmission in neutral position)

HINT: The timing mark moves in a range between 7° and 19°.

10. DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT FROM ENGINE.
