Title:
1995 LS 400 TILT/TELESCOPIC STEERING MEMORY INOPERATIVE
Some 1995 LS 400's may exhibit incomplete execution of the tilt/telescopic travel cycle when the key is inserted or removed from the ignition.
To aid consistent operation of this memory function, the following production change has been made:
PRODUCTION EFFECTIVE:
FIELD REPAIR PROCEDURE:
^ Adjust the steering column so that it is tilted all the way down and telescoped all the way out.
^ Remove the following parts (shown below):
1. Ignition key cylinder finish plate
2. End pad surrounding ignition key cylinder
3. No.1 under cover
4. No.1 safety pad
5. Steering column cover
Locate the tilt position sensor as shown.
Remove about 20-25 mm of tape behind the point where the tilt position sensor harness exits the steering column main harness as shown.
Pull up on the tilt sensor harness to reposition it as shown.
Retape the harnesses so that the tilt position sensor harness exits the steering column main harness in an upward direction and about 20 mm rearward of its original exit point as shown.
IMPORTANT:
^ Remove connector from the tilt position sensor. Inspect female terminals to ensure they are securely seated in connector and fit tightly on male pins of sensor. Repair as necessary.
^ Verify adequate slack in the tilt position sensor harness and proper memory operation by inserting and removing the ignition key several times.
^ Reinstall all parts in reverse order.
