Transmission/Transaxle Replacement

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove level gauge, reservoir tank, then disconnect throttle cable, Fig. 16.

3. Remove tail pipes from center exhaust pipe and brackets, then center exhaust pipe and heat insulator.
4. Remove rear center floor crossmember, then propeller shaft.
5. Disconnect shift control rod from shift lever.
6. Disconnect the following connectors:
a. O/D direct clutch speed sensor.
b. No. 1 vehicle speed sensor.
c. No. 2 vehicle speed sensor.
d. Solenoid wire.
e. Neutral/Park position switch.
7. Disconnect cable and connector from starter.
8. Remove oil cooler pipes.
9. Remove converter plate, then turn crankshaft to gain access to six torque converter mounting bolts.
10. Remove transmission set bolt, then set transmission jack under transmission.
11. Support engine with suitable support, using wooden blocks to prevent damaging oil pan.
12. Remove transmission rear support, then loosen No. 2 exhaust pipe set nuts until pipe moves freely.
13. Lower transmission then remove three wire harness clamps from retainer.
14. Remove starter and transmission set bolts, then the transmission.
15. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to Specifications for torque values.
