Telescopic Steering Column - Grinding Noise: Overview

ST001-97

March 14, 1997

Title:
TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN

Models:
'95 GS 300

Introduction

Introduction Image:

To eliminate possible telescopic steering column grinding noise on some GS 300 models the following production changes have been made.

^ To increase wear resistance molybdenum has been added to the teflon coating material which is applied on the surface of the telescopic tube.

^ To reduce the concentration of local stress the precision of the telescopic tube roundness has been improved.

^ A chamfered cut has been added to both ends of the telescopic tube bush.

NOTE: It is not necessary to change the telescopic tube to eliminate the grinding noise. Performing the lubrication procedures outlined in this bulletin and adding the telescopic steering pad should be sufficient.
