Lubrication & Installation Procedures1. Remove the following parts (see Page SR-11 of the Repair Manual).
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage parts, if you use a screwdriver, wind vinyl tape around its tip.

Telescopic Column:
^ Cluster Finish Panel
^ No.1 Under Cover
^ Outside Rear View Mirror Switch Assembly
^ Finish Plate
^ End Pad
^ Lower Pad
^ Steering Column Cover
Disconnect Airbag:
2. Remove steering column lower cover. Disconnect the airbag spiral cable to deactivate airbag.
CAUTION: In order to prevent any possible injury from accidental airbag deployment, the driver's side airbag should be disconnected.
Contracted Position:
3. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, and operate the telescopic steering column to the most contracted position.

4. Loosen the 2 nuts (A) at the bottom side of the steering column assembly.
5. Remove the 2 nuts (B) from the upper side of the steering column assembly and lower column.
Through "Hole A":
6. Apply body grease to the surface of the telescopic tube through "Hole A"
Extending Column:
7. Raise column and insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, and operate the telescopic steering column to the most extended position.
8. Lower column and apply body grease again to the surface of the telescopic tube through "Hole A".
9. Apply body grease to the whole surface of the telescopic Tube B.
10. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, and operate the telescopic steering column to the most contracted position.
11. Apply body grease to the surface of the telescopic tube through "Hole A" again.
12. Apply body grease to the lower surface of the telescopic steering pad and install the pad (P/N 45815-30010) into "Hole A".
13. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, and operate the telescopic steering column alternatively between the most extended and most contracted position several times.
4 Nuts At Arrows:
14. Install the steering column assembly temporarily with 4 nuts.
Reconnected Spiral Cable:
15. Reconnect the spiral cable.
NOTE: Because the spiral cable has been disconnected a diagnostic trouble code will be set.
Hand Held Tester:
16. Using the LEXUS hand-held tester, clear the diagnostic trouble code by following the prompts on the tester screen.
17. Check that the hole cover is not deformed.
18. Tighten the 4 nuts of the steering column assembly.
Torque: 25 Nm (260 kgf cm, 19 ft lbf)
19. Install the following parts (see Page SR-11 of the Repair Manual)
^ Cluster Finish Panel
^ No.1 Under Cover
^ Outside Rear View Mirror Switch Assembly
^ Finish Plate
^ End Pad
^ Lower Pad
^ Steering Column Cover
20. Check that the tilt and telescopic steering column operates normally.
