On Vehicle Inspection




ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. Inspect throttle body.
- Check that the throttle linkage moves smoothly.







- Check the vacuum at each port.
- Start the engine.
- Check the vacuum with your finger.




2. Inspect throttle position sensor.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle opener.
- Apply vacuum to the throttle opener.
- Disconnect the sensor connector.
- Insert a feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.




- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal.




- Reconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
- Reconnect the throttle opener vacuum hose to the throttle body.
3. Inspect and adjust dashpot.
- Warm up engine
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
- Check idle speed.

Idle speed (Transmission in neutral): 700 ± 50 rpm




- Check and adjust dash pot setting speed.
Push the dashpot rod all the way with a screwdriver, and confirm the dash pot setting.

Dashpot setting speed: 1,800 ± 400 rpm

If not as specified, adjust with the dashpot adjusting screw.
- Check VTV operation.
- Maintain the engine at 3,500 rpm.
- Release the throttle valve, and check that the engine returns to idle in a few seconds.
4. Inspect throttle opener.
- Warm up engine.
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
- Check idle speed.

Idle speed (Transmission in neutral): 700 ± 50 rpm




- Check throttle opener setting speed.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle opener, and plug the hose end.
- Maintain the engine speed at 2,500 rpm.
- Release the throttle valve.
- Check that the throttle opener is set.

Throttle opener setting speed: 1,500 ± 400 rpm

If the throttle opener setting is not as specified, replace the throttle body.




- Reconnect the vacuum hose to the throttle opener.
