EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection




EGR VALVE INSPECTION
1. Disconnect engine wire and heater water valve from cowl panel.
- Remove the 2 nuts, and disconnect the engine wire protector and ground strap.
- Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the heater water valve.




- Pull out the engine wire protector and heater water hose from the cowl panel.




2. Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) pipe.
- Loosen the union nut of the EGR pipe.
- Remove the 2 bolts, EGR pipe and gasket.
3. Remove EGR gas temperature sensor.




4. Remove EGR valve.
- Disconnect these hoses:
- Vacuum hose from EGR valve
- Pressure hose from EGR valve




- Remove the 2 nuts, EGR valve and gasket.




5. Inspect EGR valve.
- Check for sticking and heavy carbon deposits.
- If a problem is found, replace the EGR valve.




6. Reinstall EGR valve.
- Place a new gasket on the intake air connector.
- Install the EGR valve with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)




- Connect these hoses:
- Vacuum hose to EGR valve
- Pressure hose to EGR valve




7. Reinstall EGR gas temperature sensor.

Torque: 20 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)

8. Reinstall EGR pipe.
- Temporarily install the union nut of the EGR pipe.
- Install a new gasket and the EGR pipe with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 27 N.m (280 kgf.cm, 20 ft.lbf)

- Tighten the union nut of the EGR pipe.

Torque: 64 N.m (650 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf)




9. Reinstall engine wire and heater water valve to cowl panel.
- Install the heater water valve with the 2 bolts.
- Install the engine wire protector and ground strap with the 2 nuts.
