Ignition Relay: Testing and Inspection
PROCEDURE1. Disconnect negative terminal cable from battery.
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconeds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
2. Remove ignition main relay from the engine compartment relay box.
3. Inspect relay continuity.
- Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between terminals 3 and 6.
- Check that there is continuity between terminals 4 and 5.
- Check that there is no continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
- If continuity is not as specified replace the relay.
4. Inspect relay operation.
- Apply battery voltage across terminals 3 and 6.
- Using an ohmmeter. check that there is continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
Ignition Relay Inspection:
- Apply battery voltage across terminals 4 and 5.
- Check that there is continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
- If operation is not as specified replace the relay.
5. Reinstall ignition main relay.
6. Reconnect negative terminal cable to battery.
