Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection


PROCEDURE

NOTE: This is a test of the Ignition circuit. As there is no component test of the Igniter itself, a process of elimination is used to find if the Igniter is at fault.

1. Disconnect the high-tension cord (from the ignition coil) from the distributor caps.
2. Hold the end approximately 12.5 mm (0.50 in) from the body ground.
3. See if spark occurs while the engine is being cranked.

CAUTION: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than 1 - 2 seconds at time.





4. If the spark does not occur, perform the tests as illustrated.
