Distributor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
This ignition system uses two seperate distributor housings, one for each cylinder bank and each is driven by its respective camshaft. The Distributor supplies two functions:
- Distributes secondary voltage from the coil to the correct spark plug wire and spark plug.
- Houses the Camshaft Position Sensors.

OPERATION
Each Distributor, rotating at camshaft speed, allows the secondary voltage to flow from the coil wire through the cap/rotor to the correct spark plug wire and plug. It then continually advances the rotor to align with the next spark plug wire and plug. It also allows the Camshaft Position Sensors to accurately Inform the Engine Control Module of the relative positions of the camshafts.
