Off Vehicle Inspection
INSPECTION1. Clean throttle body.
- Using a soft brush and carburetor cleaner clean the cast parts.
- Using compressed air, clean all the passages and apertures.
NOTE: To prevent deterioration, do not clean the throttle position sensor and dash pot.
2. Inspect throttle valve.
- Check that there is no clearance between the throttle stop screw and throttle lever when the throttle valve is fully closed.
3. Inspect throttle position sensor.
- Insert a 40 mm (0.016 in) or 0.65 mm (0.026 in) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
- Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance between each terminal.
- If necessary adjust throttle position sensor.
- Loosen the 2 set screws of the throttle position sensor.
- Insert a 0.40 mm (0.016 in) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
- Connect the tester probes of an ohmmeter to terminals IDL1 and E2 of the throttle position sensor.
- Gradually turn the throttle position sensor clockwise until the ohmmeter deflects, and secure it with the 2 set screws.
- Recheck the continuity between terminals IDL1 and E2.
Clearance between lever and stop screw:
0.40 mm (0.018 in) continuity
0.65 mm (0.028 in) No continuity
4. W/TRAC: Inspect sub-throttle actuator.
- Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance between the terminals ACM to A and A-, BCM to B and B-.
Resistance: 0.5 - 1.0 ohms
4. - If the resistance is not as specified, replace the actuator.
5. Remove the 3 screws and the sub-throttle actuator.
6. W/TRAC: Inspect sub-throttle valve.
- Check that there is no clearance between the throttle stop screw and throttle valve gear when the sub-throttle valve is fully closed.
7. W/TRAC: Inspect sub-throttle position sensor.
- Insert a 0.30 mm (0.012 in) or 0.50 mm (0.020 in) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and throttle valve gear.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal.
8. If necessary, adjust sub-throttle position sensor.
- Loosen the 2 set screws of the sub-throttle position sensor.
- Insert a 0.30 mm (0.012 in) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and throttle valve gear.
- Connect the tester probes of an ohmmeter to terminals IDL2 and E2 of the sub-throttle position sensor.
- Gradually turn the sub-throttle position sensor clockwise until the ohmmeter deflects and secure it with the 2 set screws.
- Recheck the continuity between terminals IDL2 and E2.
Clearance between lever and stop screw:
0.30 mm (0.012 in) continuity
0.50 mm (0.020 in) No continuity
- Reinstall sub-throttle actuator with the 3 screws.
