PROCEDURE

Main Three Way Catalytic Converter

Removal


1. Check that the Converter is cool.





2. Remove the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.
3. Remove the 4 bolts and nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to TWC, and remove the pipe support bracket.
4. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the TWC, and remove the 2 gaskets.
5. Remove the 3 nuts, Main Three Way Catalytic Converter and gasket from each side.

Installation

1. Using a 14 mm deep socket wrench, install a new gasket and the Main Three Way Catalytic Converter with 3 new nuts to each side.

Torque: 62 Nm (46 ft lb)

2. Temporarily install the pipe support bracket to the transmission with the 4 bolts.
3. Install a new gasket to each front end of the front exhaust pipe.
4. Connect the front exhaust pipe to the 2 Main Three Way Catalytic Converter with the 4 bolts and new nuts.

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)

5. Tighten the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)

Sub Three Way Catalytic Converter

Removal


1. 1.Disconnect negative terminal cable from battery.

CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.





2. Disconnect sub heated oxygen sensors from front exhaust pipe.
- Disconnect the 2 wire grommets from the floor.
- Disconnect the 2 oxygen sensors from the exhaust pipe.
3. Remove front exhaust pipe (Sub Three Way Catalytic Converter)
- Remove the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.





- Remove the 2 bolts and nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.
- Remove the 4 bolts and nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to the Sub Three Way Catalytic Converter.
- Remove the pipe support bracket, front exhaust pipe and 3 gaskets.

Installation





1. Reinstall front exhaust pipe (Sub Three Way Catalytic Converter).
- Temporarily install the pipe support bracket with the 4 bolts.
- Temporarily install 3 new gaskets and the exhaust pipe with the 6 bolts and nuts.
- Tighten the 4 bolts and nuts holding the front Three Way Catalytic Converters to the front exhaust pipe.

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)

- Tighten the 2 bolts and nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)

- Tighten the 4 bolts holding the pipe support bracket to the transmission.

Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)

2. Install sub heated oxygen sensors.
- Install the 2 oxygen sensors to the front exhaust pipe.

Torque: 44 Nm (33 ft lb)

HINT: Before installing the oxygen sensor, twist the sensor wire counterclockwise 3 1/2 turns. After installing the oxygen sensor, check that the sensor wire is not twisted. If it is twisted, remove the oxygen sensor and reinstall it.

- Install the 2 wire grommets to the floor panel.

3. Reconnect negative terminal cable to battery.
