Diagnostic Procedure

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

NOTE: If Diagnostic Trouble Code 52 is displayed, check No. 1 Knock Sensor (for left side) circuit. If Diagnostic Trouble Code 55 is displayed, check No. 2 Knock Sensor (for right side) circuit. If Diagnostic Trouble Code 53 is displayed, replace Engine Control Module.

1. Check no continuity of Knock Sensor circuit.
- If OK proceed to step 3.
- If not OK proceed to step 2.
2. Check Knock Sensor.
- If OK proceed to step 3.
- If not OK replace Knock Sensor.
3. Check for open and short in harness and connector between Knock Sensor and Engine Control Module.
- If OK proceed to step 4.
- If not OK repair or replace harness or connector.
4. Does malfunction disappear when a good Knock Sensor is installed?
- If YES replace Knock Sensor.
- If NO check and replace Engine Control Module.
