Inspection Procedure
INSPECTION PROCEDURE1. Check output condition of Diagnostic Trouble Code 51.
- Setting the test mode. Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Connect terminals TE2 and E1 of DLC2.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON. (For checking terminal A/C, start the engine).
- Connect terminals TE1 and E1 of DLC2.
- Check if code "51" is output by the Malfunction Indicator Lamp.
NOTE: Diagnostic Trouble Code 42 is output with vehicle speed 3 mph or below.
- If OK proceed to DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM.
- If not OK; Park / Neutral Position switch failure, see NON TROUBLE CODE CHART for Park / Neutral Position Switch.
- If not OK; A/C switch failure, proceed to step 3.
- If not OK; Idle switch failure, proceed to step 2.
2. Check Throttle Position Sensor.
- Disconnect Throttle Position Sensor connector.
- Measure resistance between terminals 2 and 1 of Throttle Position Sensor connector.
With Throttle Valve fully closed; Less than 0.5 k ohms
With Throttle Valve opened; 1 Mega ohms or higher
- If OK check and repair harness or connector between Engine Control Module and Throttle Position Sensor.
- If not OK adjust or replace Throttle Position Sensor.
3. Disconnect A/C control assembly connector, check voltage between terminal MGC of A/C control assembly connector and body ground.
- Remove A/C control assembly and disconnect connector.
- Turn Ignition Switch ON.
- Measure voltage between terminal MGC of A/C control assembly and body grnund.
Voltage; 9 to 14 volts
- If OK check and replace A/C control assembly.
- If not OK proceed to step 4.
4. Check for open and short in harness and connector between Engine Control Module and A/C control assembly.
- If OK check and replace Engine Control Module.
- If not OK repair or replace harness or connector.
