SYSTEM: Automatic Transmission Control Signal Malfunction

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The signal from the Automatic Transmission Central Processing Unit retards the ignition timing of the engine during Automatic gear shifting, thus momentarily reducing torque output of the engine for smooth clutch operation inside the transmission and reduced shift shock.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DETECTING CONDITION
- Fault in communication between the engine control module and Automatic Transmission Central Processing Unit in the engine control module.

- Engine control module

NOTE: If the engine control module records the diagnostic trouble code "16" in memory, it prohibits the torque control of the automatic transmission which performs smooth gear shifting.
