Radiator Cooling Fan: Testing and Inspection

When performing the following test, refer to Fig. 1.

Fig. 1 Cooling fan component locations:





1. With coolant temperature below 83°C (181°F), turn ignition On and ensure fan stops. If not, check the following:
a. Fan relay.
b. Temperature switch.
c. Bad connection or open between fan relay and temperature switch.
2. Disconnect temperature switch connector, ensure fan rotates. If not, check the following:
a. Fan relay.
b. Fan motor.
c. Ignition relay and fuse.
d. Check for short between fan relay and temperature switch.
3. Connect temperature switch connector.
4. Raise coolant temperature above 93°C (199°F). Ensure fan rotates. If not, replace temperature switch.
