Ignition Timing: Adjustments

PROCEDURE

1. Connect a tachometer and timing light to engine.
- Connect the tester probe of the tachometer to terminal IG(-) of the Data Link Connector 1.

CAUTION: NEVER allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the Igniter and/or Ignition Coil. As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system. we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of yours before use.

2. Check the Idle speed.
- Race the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds.
- Check idle speed.

Idle: 700 ± 50 rpm

Jumper Installation:





3. Install jumper wire between Data Link Connector connector terminals TE1 and E1.
4. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.

Timing Inspection:





5. Inspect ignition timing.

Timing: 10° BTDC

6. If necessary, adjust by turning distributor. After adjustment, secure distributor hold down bolt.

Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)

Rechecking Timing:





7. Remove jumper wire and reinspect timing.

Timing: 7 - 19° BTDC

NOTE: The timing mark will move in a range between 7° and 19°.

8. Disconnect tachometer and timing light.
