Ignition Relay: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

1. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal from the battery.

CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.





2. Remove Ignition Relay (IG2) located in the engine compartment relay box.





3. Inspect relay continuity.





- Using an ohmmeter check that there is continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
- check that there is nocontinuity between terminals 3 and 5.
- If continuity is not as specified, replace the Relay.
4. Inspect the Relay operation.





- Apply battery voltage across terminals 1 and 2.
- Using an ohmmeter check that there is continuity between terminals 3 and 5.
- If operation is not as specified, replace the Relay.
5. Reinstall the Relay.
6. Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
