Ignition Timing: Adjustments
PROCEDURE1. Connect a tachometer and timing light to engine.
- Connect the tester probe of the tachometer to terminal IG(-) of the Data Link Connector 1.
CAUTION: NEVER allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the Igniter and/or Ignition Coil. As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system. we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of yours before use.
2. Check the Idle speed.
- Race the engine speed at 2,500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds.
- Check idle speed.
Idle: 700 ± 50 rpm
Jumper Installation:
3. Install jumper wire between Data Link Connector connector terminals TE1 and E1.
4. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.
Timing Inspection:
5. Inspect ignition timing.
Timing: 10° BTDC
6. If necessary, adjust by turning distributor. After adjustment, secure distributor hold down bolt.
Torque: 19 Nm (14 ft lb)
Rechecking Timing:
7. Remove jumper wire and reinspect timing.
Timing: 7 - 19° BTDC
NOTE: The timing mark will move in a range between 7° and 19°.
8. Disconnect tachometer and timing light.
