On-Vehicle Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. Check the battery voltage is above 12 volts. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
No. 2 Vacuum Pipe:
2. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the No.2 vacuum pipe.
Fuel Inlet Pipe:
3. Remove the union bolt holding the No.1 fuel pipe (fuel inlet pipe) to the delivery pipe. Remove the 2 gaskets.
CAUTION: Put a suitable container or shop rag under the delivery pipe and slowly loosen the union bolt.
Gauge Connection:
4. Install the No.1 fuel pipe (fuel inlet pipe) and pressure gauge to the delivery pipe with 3 new gaskets and the union bolt.
Torque: 42 Nm (30 ft lb)
Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
Installing Jumper Wire:
5. Using jumper, connect terminals +B and FP of the Data Link Connector 1.
- Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Turn the Ignition Switch ON.
Reading Fuel Pressure:
6. Measure the fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)
- If pressure is high, replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
- If pressure is low, check the following parts:
Fuel hoses and connections.
Fuel Pump.
Fuel Filter.
Fuel Pressure Regulator.
7. Remove the jumper from the Data Link Connector 1. Start the engine.
Reading Fuel Pressure:
8. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the Fuel Pressure Regulator, and plug the hose end and measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)
Reading Fuel Pressure:
9. Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the Fuel Pressure Regulator and measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 196 - 235 kPa (28 - 34 psi)
If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Leakdown Testing:
10 Turn the ignition switch to LOCK. Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine is stops.
Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (21 psi) or more.
If pressure is not as specified, check the Fuel Pump, Pressure Regulator and / or Injectors.
11. After checking fuel pressure, disconnect the battery negative (-) cable and carefully remove gauge to prevent gasoline from splashing. Reconnect the No.1 fuel pipe (fuel inlet pipe) to the delivery pipe with 2 new gaskets and the union bolt.
Torque: 42 Nm (30 ft lb)
12. Install the No.2 vacuum pipe with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 21 Nm (15 ft lb)
13. Reconnect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery.
- Check for fuel leaks.
