Removal

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect cable from negative terminal of battery.

CAUTION: Turn the Ignition Switch to "LOCK". Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the battery. Wait 90 seconds before proceeding with work.

2. Drain engine coolant.





3. Disconnect the following control cables from Throttle Body;
Accelerator cable (1)
A/T throttle control cable (2)
Cruise control actuator cable (3)





4. Remove intake air connector pipe.
- Disconnect the following hoses:
Power Steering air hose from air connector pipe (1)
Positive Crankcase Ventilation hose from No. 2 cylinder head cover (2)
- Loosen the 2 hose clamps, and remove the air connector pipe with the hoses.





5. Remove the 4 nuts, and disconnect the Throttle Body bracket from the Throttle Body and cylinder head.





6. Remove Throttle Body.
- Disconnect the following connectors:
Throttle position sensor connector (1)
Sub-throttle position sensor connector (w/ TRAC) (2)
Sub-throttle actuator connector (w/ TRAC) (3)
Idle Air Control Valve connector (4)





- Disconnect the following hoses:
4 vacuum hoses (1)
Air hose from intake manifold (California only) (2)





- Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.





- Disconnect the water bypass hose (the No. 2 water bypass pipe) from the clamp on the engine hanger.
- Slightly slide the Throttle Body away from the intake air connector.





- Disconnect the following hoses:
Water bypass hose from water outlet (1)
Water bypass hose from No.2 water bypass pipe (2)
- Remove the throttle body and gasket.





7. Remove No. 3 timing belt cover.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench. remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover.
8. Remove cylinder head rear cover. Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 4 bolts and rear cover.





9. Remove high-tension cords and cord clamps assembly.
- Disconnect the 2 high-tension cord clamps from the claws of the No.3 cylinder head cover.
- Remove the bolt holding the high-tension cord clamp to No.2 cylinder head cover.
- Disconnect the high-tension cords from the distributor and ignition coil.





- Using a screwdriver, lift up the lock claw and disconnect the holder from the distributor (ignition coil).





- Disconnect the high-tension cord at the grommet. Do not pull on the cord.

NOTE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.





- Disconnect the high-tension cords from the spark plugs. Disconnect the high-tension cords at the rubber boot. Do not pull on the cords.

NOTE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.

- Remove the 7 high-tension cords and 8 cord clamps assembly.
