Distributor: Service and Repair


REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative terminal cable from battery.

CAUTION: Work must be started after 90 seconds from the time the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

High Tension Cords:





2. Disconnect distributor connector.
3. Disconnect high-tension cords from distributor.

NOTICE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside.

Distributor Nut:





4. Remove distributor.
- Remove the nut.
- Pull out the distributor.
- Remove the o-ring from the Distributor housing.

DISASSEMBLY





1. Remove the three screws and remove the heat insulator.





2. Loosen the three bolts and remove the Distributor Cap and O-ring.





3. Remove the two screws and remove the Rotor.

ASSEMBLY

1. Install the Rotor.





- Align the hollow of the Signal Rotor with the protrusion of the Rotor.





- Install the Rotor with the two screws.





2. Install the Distributor Cap using a new O-ring. Secure the three bolts.





3. Install the heat insulator with the three screws.

INSTALLATION





1. Remove No. 3 timing belt cover.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench remove the 6 bolts and timing belt cover.








2. Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC compression. Verify that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pulleys and No 4 timing belt cover are aligned.





3. Install a new Distributor o-ring and coat lightly with oil. Install Distributor.





- Align the marks of the drive gear and Distributor housing.
- Insert the Distributor, aligning the protrusion of the flange with that of the stud bolt on the cylinder head.
- Temporarily secure with the hold down nut.





4. Using a 5 mm hexagon wrench, reinstall the No. 3 timing belt cover with the 6 bolts. Reinstall the oil filler cap.
