Connector/Terminal Disassembly
The following procedures must be followed when servicing the double locking connectors.FOR FEMALE CONNECTOR
1. Disengage the female from the male connector:
A Press down on the connector lock tab
B Pull the female connector away from the male side
2. Disengage terminal retainer and terminal
The terminal retainer must be disengaged before the terminal locking clip can be released and the terminal removed from the connector.
Use the special tool to unlock the terminal retainer (see illustration).
NOTE:
Do not remove the terminal retainer from the connector body.
3. Special Service Tool
To remove terminals from a connector, use SST # 0002 - 217958, or construct a tool to the dimensions shown:
4. Disconnect the terminal from connector.
A From the open end, insert the special tool into the connector between the locking clip and terminal.
NOTE:
The special tool should never be inserted into the terminal.
B Move the locking clip to the unlock position and hold it there.
^ Do not apply excessive force.
^ Do not pry on the terminal with special tool.
C Carefully remove the terminal from the connector by pulling the wire toward the rear of the connector.
NOTE:
Do not bend the terminal when removing from the connector.
FOR MALE CONNECTOR:
1. Remove the terminal guide from the connector body.
A Insert the special tool into the locking tab access hole on each side as shown in the illustration.
B Pull out the terminal guide.
2. Disengage terminal retainer and terminal.
^ The terminal retainer must be disengaged before the terminal locking clip can be released and the terminal removed from the connector.
^ Use the special tool to unlock the terminal retainer (see illustration.)
NOTE:
Do not remove the terminal retainer from the connector body.
3. Disconnect the terminal from connector
a) From the open end, insert the special tool into the connector between the locking clip and terminal.
b) Move the locking clip to the unlock position and hold it there
^ Do not apply excessive force
^ Do not pry on the terminal with special tool.
c) Carefully remove the terminal from the connector by pulling the wire toward the rear of the connector.
NOTE:
Do not bend the terminal when removing from the connector.
