Fuel Pressure Regulator: Description and Operation
Fuel Pressure Regulator:
PURPOSE
The fuel pressure regulator maintains fuel pressure at 38 - 44 psi above manifold vacuum.
LOCATION
Mounted to the fuel rail on the front of the intake manifold.
CONSTRUCTION
The unit consists of a spring loaded diaphragm operated valve.
OPERATION
Manifold vacuum is supplied to the upper side of the pressure regulator diaphragm. Vacuum pressure on the diaphragm reacts against internal spring pressure, modifying valve position. Higher vacuum results in lower fuel rail pressure.
