Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper: Description and Operation
Fuel Pulsation Damper:
PURPOSE
The pulsation damper smooths pressure fluctuations in the fuel rail caused by injector operation.
LOCATION
Mounted to the left side of the engine block, near the starter.
CONSTRUCTION
The unit consists of a spring loaded diaphragm.
OPERATION
At normal system pressure the damper diaphragm is approximately centered in the chamber. As pressure fluctuates, the diaphragm moves up and down changing fuel rail volume. The change in volume compensates for pressure fluctuations, keeping fuel pressure stable.
