Warning Indicator Lenses - Partial Delamination

ELECTRICAL
EL92-003

OCTOBER 23, 1992

LS 400

Title:
1993 LS 400 INSTRUMENT PANEL

LS 400's have warning indicator lenses (located on the underside of the instrument cluster finish panel) which project images onto the meter glass. Some early production 1993 models may exhibit partial delamination of one or both of the lenses due to interference between the warning indicator lens and instrument cluster finish panel. This may cause a buckled appearance for the lens(es) or light leaks visible in low ambient light conditions.

PRODUCTION CHANGE

Clearance was increased between the indicator lamp lens and the instrument cluster finish panel.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

STEP 1: INSPECT FOR LENS DEFORMATION

I. The following condition is considered normal:

a) Indicator lamp lens(es) is secure with no light leakage, but is slightly over-flush or under-flush from the instrument cluster finish panel.

II. Replace the lens(es) if either or both of the following conditions exits:

a) The indicator lamp lens(es) has buckled or is loose from the lamp body.

b) Light leaks between the indicator lamp lens and the instrument cluster finish panel when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position (while warning lamps are illuminated).

STEP 2: REPAIR

Installation of new indicator lamp lens(es).

a) Using a suitable tool, carefully remove the indicator lamp lens(es) that had been judged bad in step one.
b) Remove the self-adhesive backing on the new lens, handling the lens by its edges and being careful not to touch the adhesive surface.

Important

c) Carefully align the new lens inner corners with the cluster finish panel opening as shown in the circle area.

d) Finish positioning the lens in the opening and apply strong finger pressure to secure the adhesive.

Note:
- Lens A is same on all vehicles.
- Lens B is different for "with" or "without" TRAC.
