Front Brake - Squeak

Title: FRONT BRAKE SQUEAK

GS 300

To reduce the possibility of front brake squeak on '93 model GS 300 after overnight parking or in damp weather conditions such as rain or snow, the following changes have been made.

PRODUCTION CHANGES:

1) PAD

- Increased chamfers.

2) SHIM

- Bonded shim replaced by two-ply shims.

3) CLIP

- Increased strength of lower pad support clip.

4) CALIPER

- Changed angle of caliper compared to rotor.





PRODUCTION EFFECTIVE:

FIELD REPAIR PROCEDURES:

A field fix brake pad kit with T-shaped shims is now available to reduce brake squeak on vehicles built prior to the production change.

If VIN is before JT8JS47E-P0041532, install field fix pad kit P/N: 04491-50091.

Front Brake Squeak:





It is not necessary to replace the front calipers when installing the field fix brake pad kit.





PART NUMBER INFORMATION:

NOTE: The T-shaped shim should only be used on vehicles produced before 4/14/93 (up to and including VIN JT8JS47E-P0041531) with original calipers. Vehicles produced after 4/14/93 with countermeasure calipers (from JT8JS47E-P0041532) require full contact shims as supplied in pad kit P/N 04491-50120.
