Refer to Figs. 3, 7 and 8 when removing engine.
1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Remove hood and battery.
3. Remove engine undercover, then drain engine oil and coolant.
4. Remove drive belt and throttle body cover.
5. Disconnect control cables from throttle body, then remove air cleaner and air flow meter.
6. Disconnect power steering air control valve vacuum hose from air intake chamber, then remove air intake connector.
7. Remove radiator reservoir tank and radiator.
8. Disconnect igniter connectors, engine wire connectors, theft deterrent horn connector, power steering solenoid valve connector and ground cable from body.
9. Disconnect wire clamp from VSV, then remove alternator.
10. Disconnect power steering tubes from suspension crossmember, then remove power steering reservoir tank and bracket from body.
11. Remove power steering pump and A/C compressor from engine.
12. Disconnect all coolant hoses, then remove charcoal canister.

13. Disconnect engine wire harness from cabin, Fig. 8.
14. Remove exhaust system and exhaust pipe heat insulator.
15. Remove center floor brace and propeller shaft.
16. Disconnect transmission control rod.

17. Remove engine and transmission assembly from vehicle as follows:
a. Attach engine hoist to engine hangers.
b. Remove nuts holding front engine mounting insulators, Fig. 2.
c. Remove four bolts and nuts holding rear engine mounting member and disconnect ground strap.
d. Lift engine and transmission out of vehicle slowly and carefully. Place engine and transmission on a stand.
e. Separate engine and transmission.
18. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS/MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS/TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS for necessary torque values.
b. Replace fluids, check levels and leaks.
c. Check ignition timing.
d. Rearm airbag as previously described.
