Brake Pedal Height

1. Measure brake pedal height, Fig. 1.
2. If pedal height is not 6.988-7.382 inch on ES 250, 5.81-6.20 on ES 300, 5.92-6.31 inch on SC 300 and SC 400 or 5.62-6.02 inch on LS 400 models, adjust pedal height as follows:
a. Remove the undercover and lower dash finish panel as outlined under BODY ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND ENTERTAINMENT/INSTRUMENT PANELS AND CLUSTERS/COMPONENT R & R PROCEDURES/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER & DASH PANEL.
b. Disconnect stop lamp switch.
c. Loosen stop light switch locknut, then back out switch.
d. Loosen pushrod locknut.
e. Adjust pedal height by turning pedal pushrod until the pedal height is within specifications.

f. Return stop light switch until its clearance is 0.02-0.09 inch on all models except LS 400 and 0.06-0.10 inch on LS 400 models, then tighten locknut and connect switch, Fig. 2.
g. Ensure stop lights operate correctly.
h. After adjusting pedal height, check and adjust pedal freeplay as outlined under BRAKE PEDAL FREEPLAY.
