Brake Pedal Freeplay

Fig. 3 Brake Pedal Freeplay Adjustment:

1. Stop engine and depress brake pedal several times to reduce vacuum in the booster.
2. Push pedal until resistance is felt. Measure distance, Fig. 3.
3. If pedal freeplay is not 0.04-0.24 inch on ES 300, SC 300 and SC 400 or 0.12-0.20 inch on LS 400 models, check stoplight switch clearance as described in step 2f under BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT. If stoplight clearance is satisfactory, troubleshoot the brake system.
