Removal

1. Remove cotter pin, locknut cap and locknut.
2. Remove engine undercovers.
3. Disconnect tie rod and steering knuckle from lower arm.
4. Loosen attaching bolts securing driveshaft to the differential side gear or center driveshaft assembly, Fig. 11.
5. Remove driveshaft as follows:
a. Remove lefthand driveshaft by loosening attaching bolts and pulling out driveshaft. When removing the lefthand driveshaft, do not compress the inboard boot.
b. Remove joint end cover gasket from driveshaft.
c. Remove righthand driveshaft. Drain gear oil, then remove bearing lock bolt. Using suitable pliers, remove snap ring and pull out righthand driveshaft with the center driveshaft. If the driveshaft cannot be pulled out by hand, gently tap driveshaft out using a suitable hammer.
6. Drain gear oil out of the lefthand driveshaft.
7. Remove lefthand side driveshaft gear shaft from transaxle assembly. In order to install the side gear shaft, push the side gear shaft to the differential. Measure and note distance between the transaxle case and the side gear shaft. Using tool 09520-32012 or equivalent, drive out side gear shaft.
8. Using tool 09308-00010 or equivalent, replace side gear shaft oil seal, if necessary. To replace lefthand seal, use tool 09223-15010 or equivalent and a suitable hammer to tap in a new oil seal. Coat seal lip with suitable grease. To replace righthand seal, use tool 09316-60010 or equivalent and a suitable hammer to tap in a new oil seal. Coat seal lip with suitable grease.
