Fuel Pump Relay

Fuel Pump Relay Schematic:

PURPOSE
The fuel pump relay controls power flow to the fuel pump.

LOCATION
Mounted in the relay box on the right side of the engine compartment, near the fuel pump resistor.

OPERATION
The relay is not powered during engine start, the fuel pump receives full voltage. After the engine begins to run, the ECU powers the relay coil. When energized, power to the fuel pump goes through the fuel pump resistor causing a voltage drop. Lower voltage causes the fuel pump to run slower and quieter.
