Fuel Pump Ballast Resistor: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump Relay Schematic:

PURPOSE
The fuel pump resistor controls fuel pump speed after engine start-up.

LOCATION
Located on the right side of the engine compartment near the igniters.

OPERATION
During engine start, voltage is applied directly to the fuel pump. After the engine starts and fuel demand is lower, voltage is directed through the fuel pump resistor before reaching the pump.
