EGR Control Solenoid: Description and Operation

EGR System Layout:

PURPOSE
The EGR VSV controls when the EGR is allowed vacuum. The ECU uses the valve to prevent EGR operation when the engine is cold for improved driveability.

LOCATION
Mounted to a bracket at the left rear of the intake manifold.

OPERATION
The solenoid receives voltage whenever the ignition switch is turned on. When EGR is required, the ECU grounds the remaining terminal which opens the solenoid vacuum passage allowing vacuum to the EGR.
