Test Mode

System Overview

Compared to the normal mode, the test mode has higher sensing ability to detect malfunctions.

It can also detect malfunctions in the starter signal circuit, No. 1 and No. 2 cam position sensors, the IDL contact signal of the throttle position sensor, air conditioner signal and neutral start switch signal.

Furthermore, the same diagnostic items which are detected in the normal mode can also be detected in the test mode.

DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHECK

- Initial conditions.
- Battery voltage 11 V or more.
- Throttle valve fully closed (throttle position sensor IDL points closed).
- Transmission in neutral position.
- Air conditioner switched off.

Installing Jumper - Test Mode:

- Turn ignition switch off.
- Using a suitable jumper wire, connect terminals TE2 and E1 of TDCL.

Test Mode Confirmation:

- Turn ignition switch on.

HINT: To confirm that the test mode is operating, check that the "CHECK" engine warning light flashes when the ignition switch is turned to ON. If the "CHECK" engine warning light does not flash, proceed to troubleshooting of the TE2 terminal circuit.

- Start the engine.
- Simulate the conditions of the malfunction described by the customer.

Reading Codes In Test Mode:

- After the road test, using a suitable jumper wire connect terminals TE1 and E1 of TDCL or check connector.
- Read the diagnostic code on "CHECK" engine warning light on the combination meter.
- After completing the check, disconnect terminals TE1, TE2 and E1, and turn off the display.

HINT: The test mode will not start if terminals TE2 and E1 are connected after the ignition switch is turned on. When the engine is not cranked, diag. codes "43" (Starter signal) and "17" and "18" (No. 1 and No. 2 cam position signal) are output, but this is normal. When the automatic transmission shift lever is in the "D", "2", "L" or "R" shift position, or when the air conditioner is ON or when the accelerator pedal is depressed, code "51" (Switch condition signal) is output, but this is normal.
