Stop Light Switch - Adjustment Procedure

When adjusting the brake light switch on LS400, the following procedures should be followed:
Fig-1:
Check the stop light switch operation.
1. Check that there is brake pedal freeplay, as shown in Fig 1.
Pedal freeplay: 3-5 mm (0.12-0.20 in.)

2. Check that the stop lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed 5-15 mm (0.20-0.59 in.) from the free position as shown in Fig 2.
Note: Should not exceed 15 mm (0.59 in.).
3. Make sure the stop lights go off when the brake pedal is released.
If the stop lights do not come on when the brake pedal is depressed 5-15 mm (0.20-0.59 in.) from the free position, adjust the stop light switch.
Adjusting the stop light switch.
1. Remove the under cover.
2. Remove the lower pad and air duct.
3. Remove the power steering ECU.

4. Disconnect the connector from the stop light switch.
5. Loosen the stop light switch lock nut.

6. Rotate the stop light switch counterclockwise until the switch has no contact with the pedal stopper as shown in Fig 3.

7. Rotate the switch clockwise until the base of the switch makes contact with the pedal stopper as shown in Fig 4.

8. Rotate the switch counterclockwise one complete turn and check the clearance (A) between stop light switch and pedal stopper as shown in Fig 5.
Clearance (A): 0.5-1.6 mm (0.02-0.06 in.)
9. Tighten the stop light switch locking nut.
10. Install the stop light switch connector.

11. Check that the stop lights come on when the pedal is depressed 5-15 mm (0.20-0.59 in.) from the free position as shown in fig-6.

12. Make sure the stop lights go off when the brake pedal is released.
13. Install the power steering ECU.
14. Install the air duct and lower pad.
15. Install the under cover.
