Cup Holder Door - May Not Open Completely

90lexus02 BODY 001 01-19-90 L8400
Title CUP HOLDER ACCESS DOOR INTERFERENCE W/CENTER CONSOLE

CONDITION:

The center console cup holder access door may not open completely because it contacts the wood grain center console cover. The cover may be modified to obtain more clearance.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

^ Remove the wood grain center console cover by carefully prying the rear end of the console cover upward using a screwdriver wrapped with electrical tape or a soft cloth.

^ Lift the rear of the console cover upward while pulling the console cover rearward (this action will unhook the front of the console cover from the console housing). See illustration below for further details- ^ Remove the console cover from the vehicle and place it upside down on a flat surface covered with a cloth, towel or other suitable protective material. Carefully remove the felt anti-squeak material from the rear clips and save for reinstallation on the clips at a later time.

^ Carefully file down the seat of the retaining clips approximately (1-2 mm) so that the console cover will sit lower on the center console. See illustration below for further details- ^ Re-install the felt anti-squeak material onto the rear clips.

^ Reinstall the center console cover making sure that the felt antisqueak material is in place on the front of the edge of the console cover.

Note: If the cup holder continues to make contact with the console, it may be necessary to replace the console cover. If the console cover is replaced, remove the felt anti-squeak material from the rear clips of the old part and transfer it to the clips on the replacement part.
