Dash Board Removal and Installation


1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Tilt down and pull out steering wheel.

3. Remove right and left front pillar garnish as follows, Fig. 24:
a. Remove assist grip.
b. Remove front seatbelt anchor bolt.
c. Disconnect upper side of roof side inner garnish, by removing seven clips and garnish.
d. Remove seven clips and front pillar garnish.

4. Using a Torx 30 (special tool 09042-00010), or equivalent, loosen screws from wheel pad, Fig. 1. Pull wheel pad out and disconnect airbag connector. Store airbag face up.

5. Remove steering wheel retaining nut and disconnect connector, Fig. 2. Place scribe marks on steering wheel and shaft, then remove steering wheel using special tool SST 09213-31021, or equivalent.
6. Remove three steering column cover screws and cover.
7. Pry up rear side of upper console panel and pull backwards to remove.
8. Close ash receptacle, use screwdriver to remove retaining clips. Disconnect connector, remove receptacle.
9. Pry out front side of lower console cover and slide forward to remove.
10. To remove lower console box, remove garnish, remove four screws and pry out box.
11. Remove four cup holder screws and holder.

12. Pry out rear panel of console box and disconnect connector. Remove four console box screws and box, Fig. 25.
13. Remove three No. 1 undercover screws, remove cover and disconnect valve.
14. Remove two hood release lever screws and disconnect cable from lever.
15. Remove key cylinder pad with screwdriver.
16. Remove six lefthand lower pad bolts and pad. Disconnect connectors and hose.
17. Remove three parking brake lever bolts and lever.
18. Remove two outer mirror switch screws and pry out assembly. Disconnect connectors.
19. Remove three cluster finish panel screws and pry out clips. Pry out upper side of panel and remove. Disconnect connectors.
20. Remove four combination meter screws and meter. Disconnect connectors.

21. Remove No. 2 register, Fig. 24.
22. Remove four screws from radio assembly. Remove radio and heater control assembly.
23. Remove No. 2 undercover, Fig. 24.
24. Remove glove compartment as follows:
a. Remove No. 2 glove box panel.
b. Disconnect lefthand side check arm from door.
c. Remove five retaining clips and carefully pry out glove box. Disconnect connectors.
25. Remove five righthand lower pad bolts, then the pad. Disconnect connectors.
26. Remove one glove box door bolt and four screws, then the door.
27. Remove ABS computer.
28. Remove No. 3 finish panel bracket bolt, bracket and No. 2 heater register duct.
29. Remove No. 4 and 5 heater register duct screw and pull out duct.

30. Remove lefthand dash panel components as follows, Fig. 26:
a. Loosen lock bolt and disconnect junction block.
b. Disconnect three clips at floor carpet.
c. Remove four screws and combination switch.

31. Remove righthand dash panel components as follows, Fig. 27:
a. Disconnect connectors.
b. Remove bolt and bond cable.
c. Remove three clips at floor carpet.

32. Remove nine bolts and one nut from dash panel, Fig. 28.
33. Remove solar sensor.

34. Remove No. 1 and 2 side defroster nozzles, Fig. 24.

35. Remove eight front defroster nozzle and No.1 and 2 side defroster duct screws, then the ducts, Fig. 29.

36. Remove passenger side of wiring harness as shown in Fig. 30.
37. Remove four screws from driver's side wiring harness and harness.
38. Remove the following:
a. No. 2 instrument panel to cowl brace.
b. No. 4 finish panel mounting bracket.
c. No. 1 and No. 3 instrument panel registers. Pull register to the inner side to remove.
d. No. 1 and 2 defroster nozzle garnish.
39. Remove two No. 1 instrument panel brace bolts, one nut and brace.
40. Remove two No. 2 instrument panel brace bolts, one nut and brace.

41. Remove instrument panel reinforcement as shown in Fig. 31.
42. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 26 ft. lbs.
b. Torque airbag retaining screws to 65 inch lbs.
