Transmission/Transaxle Replacement


The engine and transaxle assembly are removed from the vehicle as an assembly.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain coolant from engine, then remove hood.
3. Remove ignition coil, igniter and bracket assembly.
4. Remove radiator and radiator reservoir tank.
5. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body.
6. On models equipped with cruise control, remove cruise control actuator and vacuum pump.
7. On all models, remove air cleaner assembly.
8. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
9. Disconnect all transaxle control cables.
10. Remove alternator and alternator adjusting bar.
11. On models equipped with air conditioning, remove compressor without disconnecting refrigerant lines.
12. On all models, disconnect and cap water/heater hoses and fuel lines.
13. Label, then disconnect all electrical connectors from engine.
14. Raise and support vehicle.
15. Remove engine undercovers.
16. Drain oil from engine.
17. Remove suspension lower crossmember, then the driveshafts.
18. Remove power steering pump without disconnecting hoses.
19. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from manifold.
20. Remove engine mount center member.
21. Remove engine front mount insulator and bracket assembly.
22. Remove engine center mount insulator and bracket assembly.
23. Remove engine rear mount insulator and bracket, then lower vehicle.
24. Disconnect engine ground strap.
25. Remove power steering oil reservoir tank without disconnecting hoses.
26. Remove engine right hand and left hand mount stays.
27. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle.
28. Reverse procedure to install.
