Removal
1. Refer to Fig. 52 when replacing shock absorbers.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Disconnect brake hose from caliper.
4. Remove clip from shock absorber, then disconnect brake hose.
5. Disconnect stabilizer link from shock absorber.
6. Remove rear seat back and package tray, then the dust cover from suspension support.
7. Loosen suspension support nut but do not remove it.
8. Remove shock absorber mounting bolts and disconnect it from axle carrier.
9. While holding shock absorber, remove three mounting nuts, then the shock absorber from body.

10. Mount shock absorber in a vise with a bolt and two nuts, Fig. 53.
11. Using spring compressor tool No. SST 09727-30020 or equivalent, compress coil spring and remove suspension support nut, Fig. 54.
12. Remove suspension support, coil spring, upper insulator, bumper and lower insulator.
Installation
1. Mount new shock absorber in vise, then install lower insulator.
2. Using spring compressor tool No. SST 09727-30020 or equivalent, compress coil spring and install on shock absorber with coil spring end aligned with lower seat hollow.
3. Install spring bumper to shock absorber piston rod.

4. Install upper insulator and suspension support, ensure that insulator and support are aligned with shock absorber lower bracket, then temporarily install new center nut, Fig. 55.
5. Install shock absorber to body and torque three nuts to specification.
6. Connect shock absorber to axle carrier and torque bolts to specification.
7. Tighten center nut to specification, then install dust cover, package tray and rear seat back.
8. Connect stabilizer link to shock absorber and torque to specifications.
9. Run brake hose through bracket on shock absorber and install retaining clip.
10. Connect brake hose to brake caliper using two new gaskets, then torque to specifications.
11. Bleed brakes as described under BRAKES/DISC AND DRUM BRAKES/MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/HYDRAULIC BRAKES, then install wheel and tire assembly and torque to specifications.
12. Check rear wheel alignment.
