Back Door Cannot Be Opened





DOOR / HATCH: BACK DOOR CLOSER SYSTEM: Back Door cannot be Opened
- Back Door cannot be Opened

DESCRIPTION

When the back door cannot be opened, one of the following may be malfunctioning: 1) power back door ECU (power back door motor unit) 2) back door lock assembly, 3) back door opener switch assembly, 4) main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) or 5) certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
The back door closer system uses the CAN communication system. First, confirm that there is no malfunction in the CAN communication system. Refer to the How to Proceed with Troubleshooting procedure How to Proceed With Troubleshooting.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK POWER DOOR LOCK OPERATION (BASIC FUNCTION)

(a) Check the power door lock basic function Operation Check.

OK:

The power door lock basic function can be operated normally.

NG -- GO TO POWER DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM Problem Symptoms Table
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List.

(e) Check if the back door lock functions properly.

Main Body (Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU))





OK:

The back door functions as specified in the normal condition column.

NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU) Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Back Door / Data List.

(e) Check if the back door lock functions properly.

Back Door (Power Back Door ECU (Power Back Door Motor Unit))





OK:

The back door functions as specified in the normal condition column.

NG -- REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU (POWER BACK DOOR MOTOR UNIT)
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Access / Data List.

(e) Check if the switch functions properly.

Smart Access (Certification ECU (Smart Key ECU Assembly))





OK:

The back door opener switch functions as specified in the normal condition column.

NG -- INSPECT BACK DOOR OPENER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. INSPECT BACK DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the back door lock assembly Removal.

(b) Check the operation of the back door closer motor.





(1) Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the door lock motor.

OK:

(c) Check operation of the latch switch.





(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Close Operation





Open Operation





(d) Check the operation of the pawl switch.





(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

Close Operation





(e) Check the operation of the back door courtesy switch.





(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(f) Check the operation of the sector switch.





(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

NG -- REPLACE BACK DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY - POWER BACK DOOR ECU)

(a) Disconnect the Y10 back door lock connector and P33 ECU connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU (POWER BACK DOOR MOTOR UNIT)

(a) Replace the power back door ECU (power back door motor unit) Removal.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK BACK DOOR OPEN FUNCTION

(a) Check that the back door can be opened.

OK:

The back door can be opened normally.

NG -- REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) Removal

OK -- END (POWER BACK DOOR ECU WAS DEFECTIVE)

9. INSPECT BACK DOOR OPENER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the back door opener switch assembly Removal.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPLACE BACK DOOR OPENER SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK DOOR OPENER SWITCH ASSEMBLY - CERTIFICATION ECU)

(a) Disconnect the Y11 switch connector and F58 ECU connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK -- REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) Removal

11. REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR ECU (POWER BACK DOOR MOTOR UNIT)

(a) Replace the power back door ECU (power back door motor unit) Removal.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

12. CHECK BACK DOOR OPEN FUNCTION

(a) Check that the back door can be opened Operation Check.

OK:

The back door can be opened normally.

NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU) Removal

OK -- END (POWER BACK DOOR ECU WAS DEFECTIVE)
