Moonroof Panel - Wind Noise

BODY
BO003-99

May 21, 1999

Title:
MOONROOF PANEL WIND NOISE

Models:
'99 RX 300

Introduction

To reduce the air rushing noise from the roof wind deflector panel, the following two production changes have been made:

Change # 1
The deflector panel protrusion from the roof panel has been decreased from 31 mm to 18 mm. Also, to reduce wind throb due to the change described above, the electric stop position of the sliding roof has been relocated 45 mm forward from the previous position. The sliding roof drive gear assembly is now programmed with 2 stops. The first at 45 mm before fully open and the second at the fully open position.

NOTE:
When the Moonroof Switch is pushed a second time, the sliding roof will fully open.

Change # 2
The holes in the deflector panel have been discontinued.

Repair Procedure

For vehicles produced prior to Change # 1 Implementation:

Replace the roof wind deflector panel sub-assembly and the sliding roof drive gear assembly with the new parts (P/N: 63209-48020 with No Holes and 63260-48020).

For vehicles produced after Change # 1 and prior to Change # 2 Implementation:

Replace the roof wind deflector panel sub-assembly with the new part (P/N: 63209-48020 with No Holes).

NOTE:
If the genuine accessory "Fixed Roof Rack (P/N: PT278-48980 and PT278-48995)" is installed, check to make certain the cross bar adapters are properly located as illustrated.

If the cross bar adapters are not installed as shown in the illustration, the cross bars must be removed, the adapters relocated, and the cross bars reinstalled to prevent wind throb complaints.
